Our development, engineering and manufacturing resources are state-of-the-art and every military bridge we supply is backed by a full spares, repairs, training and maintenance package.
Above all, we are a team of specialists who understand what military users need from bridges and have consistently met or exceeded their expectations for nearly 40 years.
MGB – MEDIUM GIRDER BRIDGE
More than 500 Medium Girder Bridge (MGB) systems have been purchased by armed forces all over the world since it first went into service with the British Army in 1971. Although the bridge has been significantly developed from its initial design, to its multi-role capability of today, component interchangeability across any bridge of any age has been maintained.
The MGB bridge concept is a classic and is now used by the US Army, other NATO allies and customers around the world. MGB bridge units are light, easily transported and can be adapted for most tactical bridging requirements and types of gap crossing.
The MGB system includes piers, pontoons and ferries, all engineered for deployment with minimum manpower.
DSB – DRY SUPPORT BRIDGE
The WFEL Dry Support Bridge (DSB) enables just eight personnel to deploy a bridge from a road transporter in less than 90 minutes. When built, it can carry a load of up to 80t (tracked) and 100t (wheeled) across a span from 22m to 46m and has a roadway width of 4.3m.
The US Army has adopted the DSB as its new bridging system and with 58 systems on order, DSB is set to become the new dry support bridge world-leader.
WFEL's M18 dry support bridges have repeatedly proved their value in the field, in the USA, South Korea and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
APFB – AIR-PORTABLE FERRY BRIDGE
Now in service with the UK’s Royal Engineers, the Air Portable Ferry Bridge (APFB) went into production in 2004 to meet requirements by the British Army for a new bridging system that could be used by light forces in roles which increasingly demand mobility and flexibility.
The result is a complete modular bridge system that can be transported rapidly and easily by land, sea and air. It can then be hand built by troops or trained civilians in military or civil emergency applications, and in a variety of climates.
Despite its light weight and portability, the APFB is classified to MLC 35 (T) and MLC 35 (W). It can be used to bridge both wet and dry gaps, employed as an overbridge and incorporates a ferry system.
The APFB's versatility is enhanced even further by the facility to configure transportation using its own trailers, pallets or ISO containers – making it ideal for disaster relief operations as well as 'fly forward forces'.
Although new in concept, we have developed the APFB based on our highly successful Medium Girder Bridge (MGB) of which many parts are common. By incorporating relatively few new components, we have thus been able to further extend the MGB system's capabilities in pace with the changing needs of the user.
